Clay Camps will take place at the Octoraro Art Association on 5965 Forge Rd, Oxford, PA 19363. There will be three clay camps: one advanced and two beginner. Advanced camp will have two weeks of morning sessions. Beginner camps will have one week each of afternoon sessions. Drop off for Advanced is from 9:00-9:15 am each day and pick up from 11:50-12:00 pm each day. Drop off for Beginner is 1:00-1:15 pm each day and pick up from 3:50-4:00 pm each day. We will not have lunch or snacks this summer to lessen virus exposure. Please send your camper with a water bottle.

Due to the popularity of this camp, we've split them into three separate camps. Clay camp projects will be available for pick up from Saturday, September 4th through Saturday, September 11th. They must be picked up by Saturday, September 11th as we will not be storing any projects at the arts alliance.

Advanced Clay Camp

JULY 26 - AUG 6 | AGES 7+

Advanced Ceramics

for the serious ceramic student with three or more years of experience with the OXAA Clay Camp (or an equivalent amount of time in an academic setting, interviews/portfolio required). Please email Caitlin Daugherty, Art Director, at art@oxfordart.org if you are interested and you have not completed at least three years of OXAA Clay Camp.

The potter’s wheel will be the primary technique utilized, and combinations of wheel thrown and hand built elements will be encouraged as a form of personal expression. Students will make glazes and apply them to their work. Weather permitting, alternative methods of firing and finishing will be explored. This camp is limited to 8 students. The camp will run for 2 weeks from 9 am to 12 pm each day. Ceramics is a messy art form. Students who do not like getting dirty will not enjoy this class so please keep that in mind when you discuss this summer camp program as a possibility for your child! The Oxford Arts Alliance reserves the right to dismiss or transfer a student for poor progress and/or attendance or failure to comply with Oxford Arts Alliance policies.

Each student has the potential to make up to twenty pieces or more during clay camp when they show enthusiasm and focus on their work. They'll even participate in glazing the clay projects for their own personal touch!

Beginner Clay Camp

AUG 2 - AUG 6 | AGES 7+

Beginning Ceramics

for the young student with little or no experience in the craft. The daily projects will explore hand building techniques such as slab, pinch, coil and extrusion for the forms, and incorporate texture and underglaze colors for a variety of decorative effects. The potter’s wheel will be introduced at the end of the week. This camp is limited to 8 students. Each camp will run for one week from 1 pm to 4 pm each day. Your child cannot sign up for both Beginner I and Beginner II clay camp. They must take one of either camp.

Each student can make many pieces during clay camp when they show enthusiasm and focus on their work. They'll learn to decorate their work with stamping, carving and underglaze application for that unique, personal touch!
