Matt Furches, spoonwright and outdoor educator, is leading a beginner wood carving workshop at the Oxford Arts Alliance Annex in January. The 3-day class begins on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 pm until approximately 8 pm and will occur at the same time on Thursday and Friday.
Students will learn basic knife safety and how to use very specific, safe, and efficient cuts to create useful and beautiful implements from local woods. Over the course of the three-day class, Matt will also teach how to sharpen and maintain carving tools and care for the finished projects. To maximize one-on-one learning time, the class will be capped at a maximum of 8 students. Pre-registration is required by Friday, January 12 to ensure you have a spot and there are enough materials to go around.
This is a hands-on class using only hand tools. Students are encouraged to bring their own fixed-blade carving knife and a pair of work gloves. Various local hard and softwood blanks will be provided. There will be sharp, high-quality Mora knives and crooked knives on loan for the class as well as sandpaper for polishing your project.
For more information and questions, please contact Matt at 610.547.3444 or firstname.lastname@example.org or the Oxford Arts Alliance at 610.467.0301.
