Be-Holdings

Artist: Hannah Kae Jacobson (H.K.)

On View: May 3rd – May 31st

Opening Reception: Friday, May 3rd, 5pm – 8pm

ARTIST STATEMENT:

As an interdisciplinary artist who works with many materials and across several mediums, including ceramics, poetry, performance, and installation,

I participate in actions of forming and reforming. Handbuilt forms, the vessel, are a starting off point inspired by the elemental, the natural, and a desire to work in tandem with that which is outside of my control. I seek a relationship with my materials that is both receptive and responsive. Clay has become an indispensable counterpart.

While clay holds an almost limitless potentiality and receptiveness to change which resonates with me deeply, it also has a will of its own. Breakage and degradation are inevitable but never fatal and thus have become an essential part of the process.

Bearing the impression of the hand, signs of the artist, the works hold within them a history of feeling and being. Most importantly, the final form carries a sense of having-been-held. They are imbued with consideration and feeling. I am a quiet, constant gardener, transmuting touch and time into tangible form.
