Bill Buck

Bill Buck has divided his career between theatrical design and the art studio where he works with a variety of mixed media. His design background often informs a textural, sculptural and three dimensional approach.

“I’ve never known if I wanted to be a painter or a sculptor. In museums I am tempted to cross the security barrier to touch the canvas. Generally ill advised, but I encourage the viewer to step forward and touch my work, within reason.”

A scenic and lighting designer, scene painter and props artisan, he has designed more than 250 theatre, dance and opera productions. He’s taught at James Madison University, the University of South Carolina, Mount Holyoke College and others. He has degrees from Rowan University and the Yale School of Drama, and is a member of United Scenic Artists. His artwork was seen recently at the Delaware Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Newark Arts Alliance, The Delaware Contemporary, Oxford Arts Alliance, The Community Arts Center in Wallingford, Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, the Delaware State University Art Gallery, CAMP Gallery in Rehoboth Beach, and The River View Gallery in Havre de Grace.
